Dear Parents,
I would like to take this opportunity to give you information about our kindergarten routine. Please contact me via e-mail at amyp@blackfoot.net or by phone 825-3113 anytime you have questions or concerns.

Backpacks
Please send a regular-sized backpack to school every day with your child. This will help your child carry messages and information to and from school. Please check your child’s book bag every day, in it you will find a folder with papers and notes. It is important for you to discuss your child’s work with him/her. You may want to comment on the drawings or ask questions about how the work was completed.

The daily folder will contain:

Class work & homework – Work that you child has completed at school and work to be done at home and turned in.

Class newsletter- sent at the beginning of the week

Newsletter- School newsletters are sent home each Friday

School notes- Notes from the office, school nurse, classroom teachers, breakfast/lunch menu

Snack Time
Your children generally will get hungry by mid-afternoon so I would like each family to contribute to our snack time. Every child should bring a snack to share with the entire class (about 19 students). This should be a healthy snack that is quickly eaten, such as a box of crackers, cookies, fruit snacks, raisins, apples, etc. Students can get a drink of water after our snack. I will send home a snack calendar, listing the date your child is scheduled to bring the next snack.

Lunch time
Our school lunch and recess is from 11:15- 12:15. Students are welcome to bring their lunch or pay for the school lunch.

Birthdays
Birthdays are special occasions for us! If you wish, you may bring a treat for the class. We will celebrate summer birthdays during the month of May.

Rest time
Full-day kindergarten can be quite an adjustment. Therefore, your child will be expected to rest for about 20 minutes after lunch recess.

Schedule
Our daily schedule will include calendar time, reading, math, science, social studies, group activities, individual activities, and learning centers, and many other exciting activities.
Monday:
Music

Tuesday:
P.E. & Library

Wednesday:
Music

Thursday:
P.E.

Friday:
Music & show and share

Homework
Homework will be sent home once a week, usually on Monday. Your child should complete this work by himself with your supervision. Completing and returning homework prepares your child for the homework he/she will have in future grades. It also helps build a sense of responsibility.

Occasionally, there will be a “family” homework assignment for you and your child to complete or read together.

Please read with your child every day!

Parents,
Thank you for working with your child at home. It really shows in your child’s attitude and performance. I look forward to working with you and your child.
We’re going to have a great year in kindergarten.
